About the position:

We are looking for a chatterbox remote project worker to join our team and contribute to oversee the design and delivery of our online disability project for young disabled people aged 11-25 years old. You will be supporting young people, empowering them to run various activities to their peers online whilst also creating new partnerships with other organisations. As part of the role, you will work within the youth department, recruiting young disabled people across Dorset to develop and run their own volunteering projects online and address issues which are important to them.

This role will involve:

  • Recruitment
  • Delivery of youth sessions
  • Supporting young people and partnering with external organisations

  • Have an understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of young people
  • Have knowledge of local and national mental health provision
  • Knowledge of diversity and equality and commitment to engage young people who are under-represented in youth action projects
  • Have the ability to be resilient and compassionate in a challenging environment
  • Be skilled in delivering training to young people
  • Be skilled in networking and developing positive partnerships at a local and national level
  • Be a self-starter, good communicator and team player
  • Have excellent time management and IT skills

Qualifications and experience:

  • Experience of working in a youth/disability/community context (essential)
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate positive activities for young disabled people both face to face and online (essential)
  • Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities (desirable)
  • A level 3 qualification in youth/citizenship/community/disability work or equivalent (desirable)
  • A level 3 qualification in safeguarding children and young people or equivalent (desirable)

Additional information:

  • The role has a statutory, occupational requirement to ensure the safety and welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk that they may come across using our services. The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk as a priority and follow both YMCA Bournemouth safeguarding policy and BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership and Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership statutory guidance.
  • Employment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work checks and a Disclosure and Barring Service check. If the role involves regulated activity with children or adults at risk, your employment will be subject to an Enhanced level DBS check prior to commencement date. All other applicable roles will be subject to a Basic level DBS check prior to commencement date.
